Apple To Get E-Books

Apple To Get E-Books

HarperCollins, one of the nation’s largest publishers is in negotiations over bringing the company’s books onto the Apple Tablet, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
The highly anticipated Apple Tablet is rumored to come out on January 27th, bringing competition to Amazon’s Kindle.  The existence of the tablet has not even been confirmed by Apple as they are staying true to their covert operations of releasing highly anticipated gadgets.
The WSJ report highlights a series of talks between the tech giant and HarperCollins, a New Corporation subsidiary, discussing issues such as e-book pricing and distribution.  It seems as if the publisher will set prices, while Apple will take a portion of sales if a deal is struck.
When a deal is finally reached, it will be a serious threat to Amazon who has dominated the e-book market via the Kindle.

Microsoft To Stream Cable?

Microsoft To Stream Cable?

t was reported that Microsoft is in deep talks with Disney about getting ESPN content onto Xbox 360 consoles via Xbox Live, according to  a report by The New York TImes.
Microsoft would be continuing their adaption of bringing online content to their system.  They already have integrated Netflix, their Zune Marketplace and Facebook the gaming console.
The Xbox 360 is quickly becoming an all-around entertainment hub with social networking, Last.fm, and soon Twitter?  Live sporting events brought by ESPN could bring live sporting events and new interactive sports games to the console for a per-subscriber fee.
With almost 60% o U.S. homes now owning at least one game console, it makes sense for Microsoft (along with Sony and Nintendo) to be delivering on the multiple ways an Internet-connected box in the living room can be useful to consumers beyond simply gaming.  There is a clear race to bring Internet-streamed content into the living rooms and college dorms of people.

VERIZON AND AT&T CONTINUE THE WAR

VERIZON AND AT&T CONTINUE THE WAR

If you’ve watched television in the past several months, then you’ve noticed the advertisement war going on between AT&T and Verizon.  The two companies have both created several commercials which have been geared toward deterring the subscribers from each of the companies to switch to the other.
Verizon created commercials famously showing the coverage maps of each, showing how AT&T has 3x less coverage than Verizon does for 3G speed.  AT&T is currently suing Verizon for false advertisement.  The company has also hired actor, Luke Wilson to star in their  commercials convincing iPhone subscribers (AT&T’s bread and butter) that the coverage is not only faster but can support functionalities such as surfing the web while being on the phone.
Well if you thought it was going to end at commercials, you were wrong.  The two companies are now on an all-out pricing war.  Both networks have dropped the prices of their unlimited voice plans, including the unlimited plans of iPhone owners, according to Mashable.  The Unlimited talk plan from Verizon now costs $69.99 ($29 cheaper) who was matched by AT&T.
Verizon and AT&T customers can both switch to these new plans without any type of penalty or contract extension.  We’re all waiting to see what the next strategic battle move will be with the iPhone and AT&T deal coming to an end in 2010.
